What Is A Sound Church?
Sound: Stable, safe, secure, wholesome, healthy. (1 Tim. 1:9-10; 6:3; 2 Tim. 1:13; 4:3; Titus 1:9; 2:1)
Church: Baptized believers, saved. (Acts 2:38, 41,47; 8:1-3; 11:21-22; Rom. 16:1; 1 Cor. 1:2)
A church is NOT sound just because…
- It is not liberal
- It has the right doctrine (Rev. 2:2-5)
- It is materially rich (Rev. 3:15-17)
- It has a good name, reputation (Rev. 3:1-3)
- It is an active church (Rev. 2:19-20)
Characteristics of a sound church…
- Seeks scriptural organization (Acts 14:23; Phil. 1:1; 3 John 9; Tit. 1:5)
- Members know their place (Joshua 6:5; Judges 7:21; Neh. 4:15; 1 Chron. 6:32; Prov. 27:8)t
- Demands plain teaching (Ezek. 3:17-18; 2 Tim. 4:5; Isa. 58:1; Matt. 15:8-13; Lk. 11:45; 2 Tim. 2:16; 4:10; 3 Jn. 9)
- Evangelistic (1 Thess. 1:8)
- Pure (Phil. 1:27; Heb. 12:14; Rom. 12:1-2; Tit. 2:12)
- United (1 Pet. 3:8; Rom. 14:19; Eph. 4:1-3)
- Not content (Phil. 3:13-14)
